Building for the Future in Clairmont
Update on construction, September 25, 2026
Bringing high-speed fiber internet to the community is an important multi-million dollar private investment that will provide residents with faster, more reliable connectivity for years to come. As with any large infrastructure project, work takes place in stages and requires coordination across many properties and neighbourhoods. Once complete, every home in the project area will have access to high-speed fiber services.
The Project So Far
Crews have been installing a new fiber-optic network to bring fast, reliable internet to Clairmont homes and businesses — including mainline construction and drilling/hydrovac work to place fiber underground. Service is already available west of the tracks and north of 100th Ave, and we’re working toward the rest of the community.
What’s Happening Now
- Drilling and hydrovac work on the east side of Clairmont is complete.
- Cleanup and restoration there will be finished by the end of this week.
- Across Clairmont, the build is in its final stages, remediation included.
What remediation involves. Restoring a property after fiber work may happen in stages, not one visit.
- Backfill and compaction — the ground that was opened up for digging or drilling is filled back in and compacted so it settles properly and doesn’t sink later.
- Surface repair — Depending on what was disturbed, this can mean seeding disturbed grass areas, patching gravel, or repairing asphalt or concrete. We seed rather than sod, and we ask residents to help the new grass along by watering the seeded area — we’re not able to return to do that.
- Settling and weather — Some materials, especially compacted soil and fresh asphalt patches, need time to settle or cure before a final pass can be done. This is often why a site looks “unfinished” for a period after the hole itself has been filled.
- Safety first — if a crew has to leave before a site is fully restored, it will always be covered and flagged, never left unsafe. If you ever see a site that isn’t, please let us know right away.
- Final inspection — A site isn’t considered complete until it passes a final check against our restoration standard.
What we’ve heard from you. Your feedback has highlighted a few areas that matter most to residents during construction and please know we are sorry for the frustration this has caused.

Utility flags left in place too long. Flags stayed on lawns longer than they should have, which made summer lawn care difficult.

What we are doing about it: Remaining flags, open excavations, and restoration are being addressed within the next 2-4 weeks.
